Bidding summer an American adieu in style

Labor Day weekend is officially upon us, and although this may seem unreal to many, it’s real!  Instead of feeling like time has slipped through your summer-lovin’ fingers, pack your bag and head to the beach or boat, or to a bar-b-que, and ensure you’re fashionably equipped for the occasion.

Alas, now that summer is coming to a close, it’s time we bid an American adieu in style … but not till we give some heavily-rotated S/S pieces another spin.

Boat 'n tote this Labor Day!
The perfect tote-all; my L.L. Bean leather-handle Boat and Tote II carries what I need for the holiday weekend: SPF 30 makeup setting spray by Coola, Kerastase Spray A Porter for textured hair, a printed sarong that’ll double as a wrap in the cool AC, a straw Calypso St. Barth visor to shield the sun, and my trusty Ray-Ban Aviators.

Why worry about incorporating fall trends into you Labor Day wardrobe line-up when you have the coming seasons to work those pieces? If you’re anything like me, you’re soaking up summer like a sponge this time of year with some of your go-to warm weather faves.

My five summery layouts for the long weekend consist of red, white, (a little black) and blues — naturally!

Red, White and Blue Kimono
A casual and festive look that’s perfect for whatever the weekend throws my way: my red, white and blue kimono from MOSA boutique, a heather grey tank, white AG Stilt skinnies, my red Soludos, and a mixed metal wrist stack.

Labor Day Shopping Look
A crisp look to shop through the sales — white, cobalt, and black: white tie-waste fit ‘n flare, my Scout Daytripper tote in Nantucket Navy, Soludos espadrilles in black, my fave Eyebobs by Iris Apfel (love her!), and Essie polish in ‘Midnight Cami’ for that finishing touch of deep blue.

Laid back and cool for the summer in gingham and flares.
Cool for the summer in white denim flares by 7 For All Mankind, a blue, vintage gingham button-down, an Eric Javitz straw clutch, mixed bangles, Ray-Ban Wayfarers, and red Soludos espadrilles.

Labor Day Weekend dinner outfit
Early evening dinner out: red wrap-skirt from Cavortress paired with sleeveless chambray, cognac ‘Clare’ rope wedges by Jack Rogers, mixed bangles, and my Eric Javits shoulder bag and Ray-Ban Aviators.

My Labor Day beauty must-haves
Labor Day beauty essentials: SPF 30 makeup setting/refreshing spray by Coola and Kerastase ‘Spray A Porter’ texturizing spritz for soft (not crunchy), beachy tousle.

Wishing all a happy, safe and beautiful holiday, and cheers to bidding summer a fashionable farewell.  Enjoy this weekend of rest and relaxation!
